Denis Darzacq’s Freefall Photography

April 30th, 2007 by Almost George

A photo from Denis Darzacq’s “Le Chute” (”The Fall”)

Denis Darzacq’s ‘La Chute’ (’The Fall’) is an awesome collection of photos.

From The Guardian:

“… these pictures - taken with a manual camera and not Photoshopped - in which impassive 20-year-olds seem about to hit the ground at high speed. Why are all the shutters closed behind them? Will anyone care if they splatter on the pavement? Will anyone even notice them tumbling to certain oblivion?”

“In 2006, Darzacq dreamt up The Fall. It was partly the horror-struck idea of people falling from the twin towers on September 11, but it was mostly a depiction of an entire generation in France in free fall, ignored by society, their energy untapped and unused. He felt today’s France was the sort of place where someone could tumble from the sky without a net and no one walking down the street would bat an eyelid.”

The article at the Guardian is worth a read. Very cool stuff.

Cats, Robotics, and the People that Blend the Two

April 25th, 2007 by Almost George

A friend send us this.

Be forewarned: it’s about cats, and robotic parts, and the people that put your cats back together with robotic parts. It’s also about the worst spoof site ever.

Please suggest more of these. The Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division is my favorite.

Texting Competition

April 25th, 2007 by monk

So I know I am getting old, but I did not know that they had competitions for texting. The LG National Texting Championship 2007 was held in New York at the “…historic Roseland Ballroom”.  The winner ——- a 13 year old girl (Morgan Pozgar). She won $25,000. Here is some pictures of the competition.

The Electric Jacket (aka exo-electric armor)

April 24th, 2007 by monk

Ever wanted to be a superhero. Well here is your chance, kinda (mainly if you are a girl). This jacket apparently emits 80,000 volts of electricty on the outside layer of the jacket, thus shocking anyone who is touching you.

According to the website,

“The goal of the No-Contact Jacket is to call attention to violence against women and to offer an alternative response to the body’s vulnerable space and boundaries that society, culture and fashion have created.”

Here is the site: http://www.no-contact.com/

Misspelled Sign

April 23rd, 2007 by Almost George

Well, if we aren’t getting traffic from real people we sure are getting a lot of comment spam. Hopefully no one is seeing it. Our filter seems to be doing what it claims.

Something I saw around town was a bit humorous, and I so I thought I would share it here. Please note that I don’t pick on every mistake I see, nor am I here to degrade anyone - but this is funny, and hopefully even the parties involved got a good laugh…

Misspelled Learning Center Sign

Notice, particularly, that these people will be teaching your children.

[Sorry if the picture is a bit bad - my girlfriend took this picture through the windshield of my car, in the pouring rain. I think it came out quite well.]

Secrets of the Magic 8-Ball - Revealed!

If this sounds interesting, see the secrets at Hanttula.

Supersonic Plane Creates it’s own Clouds!

April 5th, 2007 by monk

This plane apparently goes so fast that the mositure in the air around the plane condenses, making a cloud form around the plane itself.

Cool Stuff. Take a look at the pictures.

Need a lung?

“Dr. Sha looks like any other Asian businessman in his dark blue suit and yellow tie, but he’s actually an eccentric spiritual healer who claims “the Divine” has given him the power to download “soul software” and heal a range of ailments.”
