List of Latin Phrases

July 14th, 2008 by Almost George

Wikipedia has this list of Latin phrases. (What don’t they have?)

It lists direct English translations of common phrases, such as “veni vidi vici” and “et cetera”. There’s also many that I’ve never heard… so if you’re looking to fill your brain with some potentially useless knowledge - here’s another good resource!

Awesome Wiimote stuff!

January 23rd, 2008 by monk

Here is a website that has some cool DIY stuff for the Wiimote. It shows you how to connect the Wiimote up to the PC with bluetooth and then turn your pc/laptop into a touchscreen. You can also create a whiteboard by connecting up a projector, but most important, Johnny Lee shows you how you can have a full 3D experience when playing a FPS game. Totally cool!!

Texting Competition

April 25th, 2007 by monk

So I know I am getting old, but I did not know that they had competitions for texting. The LG National Texting Championship 2007 was held in New York at the “…historic Roseland Ballroom”.  The winner ——- a 13 year old girl (Morgan Pozgar). She won $25,000. Here is some pictures of the competition.

Supersonic Plane Creates it’s own Clouds!

April 5th, 2007 by monk

This plane apparently goes so fast that the mositure in the air around the plane condenses, making a cloud form around the plane itself.

Cool Stuff. Take a look at the pictures.

Down Time, Missing Categories, Problems

March 10th, 2007 by Almost George

Our apologies for the recent down time you may or may not have noticed. We’ve been moving to a new server and, in the process, some things went wrong. For instance: all of our categories were untied from their posts, so that will have to be fixed.

Not to mention how terribly busy we’ve been on other projects, our jobs, etc.

So just in case you’re reading this: we promise to have it all under control as soon as possible.

We want trackbacks, we don’t want spam

March 2nd, 2007 by Almost George

In case this is news, I’ve finally enabled Trackbacks on this site.

One of the reasons for doing this was that we recently got a nice visit from someone after having sent one to them. I realized it wasn’t very fair of us to send them out with every post and not allow others to return the favor.

Therefore I’m praying that the good ol’ comment/trackback spam doesn’t start creeping up. If it does, I’m afraid we’ll just have to shut it back down.

And if your anonymous comments don’t show up: it’s Akismet’s fault. I’ll approve them as I see them.

Vacation?

January 29th, 2007 by Almost George

Sorry, with the move into my new apartment and all, I (Almost George) have been on a small break until my internet gets hooked up. The good thing is my modem kit is arriving today - according to the UPS tracking system. (Please don’t stalk me).

Be back in the swing soon!

PS:
Something strange I notice is that the package made it from Atlanta to Memphis in one day, but has been shuffled around Memphis for almost 3 days. That seems silly if you just look at the dates compared to distance. Is there something there that desperately needs streamlining?

BellSouth Jessica #444

January 22nd, 2007 by Almost George

With the recent move to my new apartment, I’ve decided to get the $99 bundle from BellSouth to get my phone/tv/internet fix hooked up as quickly as possible. During the ordering process, you can chat live with an online representative. I realized, after multiple sessions, that the rep was always Jessica.

I decided to be the weird guy and pose a couple of questions. Since the chat applet is done in Flash there wasn’t a way to get a decent transcript (if you know how - ‘hit my clip’), you’ll have to suffice with my Screenshot-scroll-Screenshot-scroll style of relaying you the following information:

[Note: Sorry, WordPress doesn't have the friendliest way to post images, so I'm currently looking for a better plugin. For now, click the thumbnails to see their larger counterparts.]

$8,000 Bounty on Vista & IE7

January 12th, 2007 by monk

VeriSign’s iDefense Labs has placed an $8000 reward for any hacks that can be duplicated on Vista or IE7. The first six submissions that work will be rewarded the $$.

Ryan Naraine of eWeek writes:

“The rules are straightforward: iDefense will pay $8,000 for each submitted vulnerability that allows an attacker to remotely exploit and execute arbitrary code on either of the two Microsoft products.

Only the first submission for a given vulnerability will qualify for the payout, and iDefense will award no more than six payments of $8,000. “
