“Old Dan Tucker”

November 28th, 2007 by monk

I learned this song from my Great-Grandfather and my Grandfather as I was growing up. I never knew it was actually a song. I thought they made it up. All of my family is from the Ozark Mountain/Northwestern Arkansas region. So yes, I would be considered a Hillbilly.  Here is a wikipedia article about the song.

I’m no genuis, but I think someone made a mistake. I was shopping on a popular chain department store website for Wii games when I came across this picture for some Chicken type game for the Wii.

1970’s Bubblicious

October 30th, 2007 by Almost George

Monk’s reference to Freakies got me doing a little bit of research on an era, thankfully, before my time: the 1970’s.

I’m wondering what the heck they were putting in Bubblicious back then.

Freakies Cereal!

October 30th, 2007 by monk

So apparently there was a cereal called Freakies back in the 1980’s that had little monsters as its mascot (aka Freakies). The whole thing looks nuts to me and I am wondering if anyone remembers the cereal and if so, how did it taste. I would also like to point out the similarities between the checkered flag and that of the Purina dog food symbol.

CoffeeBreakSpanish.com

October 30th, 2007 by monk

So I was doing some “research” on podcasts and vodcasts that are available on the web, so I can get some ideas, when out of the blue I stumble upon this website CoffeeBreakSpanish.com. It is a pretty neat idea, teaching others a new language through a podcast, but I know they have been around for a while, so that was not what was surprising. The hosts of the show are in Scotland and have a very thick accent. It is quite funny to listen to Scottish people speaking Spanish. Here is the preview clip.

Slashdot.org

October 29th, 2007 by monk

So, I don’t know if anyone knows about the website Slashdot, but I found a new slogan on one of their pages that I thought was pretty cool.

“The Nuts and Volts of News for Nerds”.

(it is located at the top by their logo)

They have always advertised themselves as “News for Nerds…”, but now it sounds more interesting.

Tandem Bike? Psh! Try the Conference Bike!

September 20th, 2007 by Almost George

Not sure if you’ve seen this before, but it’s relatively new to me: The Conference Bike, invented by Eric Staller.

Basically, it’s a tricycle where 7 (seven!) riders sit, all facing eachother, pedaling. One lucky person gets to steer the 400 pound “bike”.

On their site you can see videos of it in action - and Oh, how I want one!

There are also great money making oppurtunities, apparently. Which gives me an idea…

Talk like a Pirate Day!

September 19th, 2007 by Almost George

Sorry I didn’t get around to announcing this in advance, but yet another International Talk Like A Pirate Day has come upon us.

It’s also worth noting that Pirates do not say “ARRRGH!” they say “ARRR!”.
