Talk like a Pirate Day!

September 19th, 2007 by Almost George

Sorry I didn’t get around to announcing this in advance, but yet another International Talk Like A Pirate Day has come upon us.

It’s also worth noting that Pirates do not say “ARRRGH!” they say “ARRR!”.

How it Should Have Ended?

August 15th, 2007 by Almost George

Not sure how safe this site is, but the two videos I watched (on Youtube) were pretty clean…

How it Should Have Ended - is a site that does cartoon parodies of… well, how most movies probably really should have ended. If I get time, I’ll write more about what I find… unless you know about the site - put something in the comments!

Questionable Lyrics?

July 2nd, 2007 by Almost George

Quite awhile back I was informed that there was a list of songs “purportedly deemed inappropriate by Clear Channel” shortly following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

I wanted to do a whole writeup on this, but I’m tired of this sitting in drafts.

So here’s the link: List of Songs with “questionable lyrics” following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

You read it on the internet, so it must be true.

Webcomics

July 2nd, 2007 by Almost George

Our friend Bruce was kind enough to note that we had never linked up any webcomics.

He sent a list of several, all of which I did not take the time to peruse, so I’m sure of the SFW/NSFW status of these links.

Therefore, I will tell you about one I did check out: Dueling Analogs. A pretty funny web comic that deals a lot with video game culture. Some naughty language, including one f-bomb somewhere between today and December 2006, but mostly alright.

I’m going to ask that you post any additions or suggestions to the comments, and I’ll be sure to check them all out, and keep everyone updated.

My personal favorite, that I’ve been reading for quite some time: xkcd. Check it out, now!

MAKE: Blog: Make a Balloon Flinging Siege Weapon - Make: Video Podcast

June 8th, 2007 by Almost George

Recently on the Make: Video Podcast:

Instructions for Making a (water) Balloon Flinging Siege Weapon out of PVC.

This weekend, make a human powered siege weapon. Using a human as a counter-weight and PVC piping for the structure, this catapult can hurl water balloons 100 yards or more.

Awesome.

Pretty picture of the Sun from NASA.

Pretty picture of the Sun from NASA.

About:

This colorized picture is a mosaic of ultraviolet images from the orbiting TRACE satellite sensitive to light emitted by highly charged iron atoms. Growing in number, the intricate structures visible are the Sun’s hot active regions with temperatures over a million degrees Fahrenheit and their associated magnetic loops.

ThinkGeek :: Flying Alarm Clock

June 6th, 2007 by Almost George

Yes - I am very bad at getting out of bed. So far it hasn’t hurt my career or anything… I get out of bed “on time”. But it definitely doesn’t help me that I don’t get out of bed until the last possible minute. Doing that makes me feel bad all day, because I think about what I *could* have done, or how much better I would have felt if I would have gotten up and made breakfast, maybe did a little “Man-lates” (ask me later) or something.

Which brings me to the Flying Alarm Clock over at ThinkGeek. A very tempting purchase. Not tempting enough for the $34.99 price tag though.

He-Man is not the only one returning to the ‘big screen’

June 4th, 2007 by Almost George

I think this was on Digg awhile back, from Variety.com -He-Man returns to big screen.

Upon reading the whole article, I noticed that not only is He-Man looking to make a comeback, but also Speed Racer, Voltron, Street Fighter, and the DC Comics character the Green Arrow.

Most interesting was this line:

“Silver Pictures, which is turning the Japanese animated series ‘Speed Racer’ into a live-action film to be directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski…”

In case you aren’t fully aware, the Wachowski Brothers are known (probably most notably) for The Matrix.

I’ll have to look into these ‘new’ movies…

Free movies this summer for kids of all ages

June 4th, 2007 by Almost George

From Lifehacker: Family: Free movies this summer for kids of all ages.

From the write-up:

Did you know that most movie theaters/movie chains offer free family-oriented movies during the summer on weekday mornings? Parenting blog Raising4Boys.com has compiled a pretty comprehensive list of all the theaters in the U.S. that participate in this program.

As usual, other cool tips abound in the comments.
