List of Latin Phrases

July 14th, 2008 by Almost George

Wikipedia has this list of Latin phrases. (What don’t they have?)

It lists direct English translations of common phrases, such as “veni vidi vici” and “et cetera”. There’s also many that I’ve never heard… so if you’re looking to fill your brain with some potentially useless knowledge - here’s another good resource!

Filter Google Results By Date

May 2nd, 2008 by Almost George

(link, to lifehacker)

Google can reorder search and news results from the last day, week, a few months, or entire year by adding a small string to the end of the search URL. Just add this string—

&as_qdr=d

—to the address bar and hit enter. You’ll get a custom drop-down box that lets you re-order results based on date.

PMOG

April 15th, 2008 by Almost George

Finally, a *Passively* Multiplayer Online Game!

PMOG transforms our web surfing into ongoing social play. With a Firefox plug-in, players can bomb each other, wage war over web sites, and lead other users on web missions.

There’s so much more, check it out.

I thought of something like this once, and I’m beating myself up for not implementing it.

Cool video of some awesome hand-drawn lettering. I haven’t looked into who did this or exactly what it’s about, but it was too neat to wait before posting …

Retail Me Not is a really great coupon codes site. Nice layout, easy to navigate and search, and the most up to date I’ve seen.

Mmm… pizza…

1970’s Bubblicious

October 30th, 2007 by Almost George

Monk’s reference to Freakies got me doing a little bit of research on an era, thankfully, before my time: the 1970’s.

I’m wondering what the heck they were putting in Bubblicious back then.

Awesome “space painting” in under a minute. Depending on how many “cool things” you’ve seen today, this could be jaw-dropping once you realize what’s going on: Link.

Shock Burns Cable Thief Beyond Recognition

October 9th, 2007 by Almost George

From the article:

Police in the western city of Duisburg [Berlin] found the 32-year-old man’s blackened remains by a set of cable cutters and pile of non-live cables he had already stolen.

Reuters has a clip, among other places.

Tandem Bike? Psh! Try the Conference Bike!

September 20th, 2007 by Almost George

Not sure if you’ve seen this before, but it’s relatively new to me: The Conference Bike, invented by Eric Staller.

Basically, it’s a tricycle where 7 (seven!) riders sit, all facing eachother, pedaling. One lucky person gets to steer the 400 pound “bike”.

On their site you can see videos of it in action - and Oh, how I want one!

There are also great money making oppurtunities, apparently. Which gives me an idea…
